Centre Island

Centre Island

The tiny village of Centre Island, established in 1863, is in the town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County.

An enviable location on a peninsula comprised of four miles of Long Island coastline on Oyster Bay Harbor, Cold Spring Harbor and Long Island Sound has made Centre Island one of the most exclusive and affluent communities on Long Island's North Shore Gold Coast.

With a population of just 410 residents within its 1.1 square miles, Centre Island is the second smallest of the 64 villages in Nassau County.

In 2010, BusinessWeek placed the village in its "The 50 Most Expensive Small Towns in America List, with a median home costing in at over $2.1 million and prices for sprawling mansions and luxury homes here can easily climb into eight figures.  It comes as no surprise to learn that a number of celebrities, moguls and socialites call Centre Island home.

The community has its own police force stationed at the entrance to the peninsula to address the privacy and safety of its residents. Although the village is quiet and peaceful, residents have many choices among recreational activities centered around the peninsula's private beaches and country clubs.  Yachting and golfing are popular activities here.

More cultural, shopping and dinning opportunities can be found in neighboring communities like Huntington, Locust Valley, and Bayville.

Centre Island is 38.3 miles from New York City; the nearest Long Island Rail Road station is the Oyster Bay station across Oyster Bay Harbor.
